[DIGEST]
This is my first attempt at creating a digest, so please bear with me if I
make some errors.
Waldi:

Okay, this clears up the confusion. I do not think that there is any
reason why the list should use a different tool, then. If end-users
are expected to pay, that is fine. If I find myself using it often,
I'll register my personal copy.

As I said in another message before deciding to do a digest, I think that
the specification has been published. It is in one of the text files
(or .HYP?) that come with either the utility archive or the main
archive. The FAQ one, I believe.
Joe:
>I don't understand this, all the details to create hypertext files are fully

This is not what Waldi meant, I think. He meant the specifics of the
compiled format, so that people could write viewers that are internal
to their programs, or get specific information out of a compiled
HyperText without having ST-Guide do it.
>We seem to be going round in circles here!
We now understand the situation (at at least I believe that I do).
>Anyone can include it for FREE with their software BUT
>*I'm* suggesting (like Andre) that developers might like to give more than
^ -- As the author of the program in question, we need to know what
Holger suggests. Waldi has written that Holger explicitly wants
developers not to be forced to pay to distribute ST-Guide. This
is quite different from your original statement... :)
> *I* would be
>dissappointed to see developers taking the attitude that they're doing
>their bit by supporting ST-Guide in the first place it's a valid POV but
>not mine!
What is a POV? Anyway, I'm fairly sure that I disagree with this
statement. If, say, the makers of Mag!X (MagiC) suddenly decided to
support ST-Guide, it would be an incredible boost in distribution for
Holger. Major commercial applications distributing ST-Guide would
increase its popularity (and sales) tremendously and go a long way
toward making it a standard. Shareware applications (which are
distributed more widely than commercial applications because they do
not depend on sales) including ST-Guide would increase the distribution,
popularity, and (once again) sales of ST-Guide. I honestly think that we
are helping Holger by distributing his software with ours (those that
do) and supporting it. Perhaps I have a bad attitude? I'm not sure,
but that is the way I feel. I'll be registering, I think, for my
personal use.
